When Life Gets Stressful, Turn to Tranquility Techniques

Tranquility Quote by Marcus Aurelius: “It is in your power to withdraw yourself whenever you desire. Perfect tranquility within consists in the good ordering of the mind, the realm of your own.”

The Power Of Mantras

The Power of Montras-You are probably already familiar with or have heard of Mantras. Mantras are the repetition of words, phrases or sounds that have spiritual, sacred or divine meanings. The use of the sound of OM (or Ohm, Aum) in meditation is one that probably comes to your mind. This widely used mantra is thought to be a sacred sound, the sound of life, the
vibration of creation; and it is often silently or audibly repeated in meditation.

But there is another powerful way to use a mantra that isn’t related to meditation at all—at least not in the traditional sense of sitting in a lotus position with eyes closed and hands posed. For example, a mantra can be used anytime, anywhere you want to tame your monkey mind—you know, when your thoughts are running wild and your inner wisdom cannot be heard over the raucous noise. A continuous round of “Peace…Peace…Peace,” might just calm down and put to rest that deafening monkey mayhem long enough for you to get through any stressful situation.

Or perhaps your willpower is beginning to wane when you are doing something you really want to finish, like cleaning the house, paying your bills, getting through the last round of a strenuous exercise workout or a 5K run. Silently or verbally repeating a single word as simple as “Go…Go…Go…” or reciting a continuous loop of “I can do it!” could help elevate your focus, concentration, or vibration enough to carry you on to the finish line of whatever you have started and want to complete.

The key to remember is that a mantra helps us disengage from our busy, active mind so that instead of focusing on negative or troubling thoughts, our awareness is transported to the present moment and the task at hand, giving us the added strength and endurance behind a single-minded intention.

So the next time you are resisting the urge to stop washing the dishes in favor of polishing off a second serving of dessert, try repeating a mantra to yourself that will cleanse your spirit as well as the dishes—in other words, intone an energizing, inspiring chant that keeps your mind on the dishes and off of key lime pie!

Divining Divine Intuition

Divine Intuition

Divining Divine Intuition

It is divine, isn’t it? That feeling of calmness, contentment, and confidence that comes when you just “know” that something is the right thing for you. Whether it’s choosing a new life path, a career, a loving mate, a home, or simply a perfectly ripe piece of fruit at the grocery store, it’s wonderful when the right choice is crystal clear to you without struggle, strain or angst.

We’ve all had moments in our life, especially in times of crisis, when helpful flashes of insight have suddenly come to us like a thunderbolt in a storm, but more often than not intuition (or your Inner Voice) is softly whispered from within. I have been studying the subject of intuition looking for a tool to help me “divine” those divine insights, like a dowsing rod used to find water and metal. In particular, I was searching for a way to distinguish and separate my intuition from my ego voice in my inner dialogue.

Then one day I was exercising on my treadmill while watching Louise Hay’s wonderful DVD “You Can Heal Your Life” and in an interview, Doreen Virtue said something so profound that it almost stopped me in my tracks (not something you want to do on a treadmill!). Doreen explained that a good way to discern an intuitive insight from the ego’s self talk is by paying attention to your I’s and You’s.

You see, an inner thought that begins with “I” is most often generated by the ego, and one that is preceded or contains “you,” frequently comes from your intuitive Self. Of course, if it doesn’t ring true to you or doesn’t feel right, then disregard the thought and move on. When it’s right, a feeling of relief, happiness or joy will come over you.

Now I make it a habit to stop and really listen to the You’s in my thoughts and the pearls of wisdom they offer. And at the same time, I am also becoming more aware of and acting to diminish my ego’s negative chatter in general.

So in other words, a good practice to develop in divining your divine intuition is to mind your P’s and Q’s and your I’s and You’s!

Balancing Acts

The whole purpose of working with your Chakras is to sustain, boost or restore the energy flow in your body. A free flowing stream is a good visual to use when thinking about how you would like energy to circulate throughout your entire body.

See it traveling at an even, unfettered pace. Now picture the aftermath of a storm (which can be likened to an unhappy or tramatic event in your life). Some areas of the stream may be hardly affected. Others may have leaves and limbs–debris–strewn about causing a slight buildup. And in others yet a whole tree may have fallen and dammed up an entire portion of the stream.

The results can vary anywhere from a trickle of water flowing through (the signs of a severely blocked Chakra) or some water getting through, but not with its full force (as when Chakras a slightly blocked).

The purpose of this blog is to help you (and me) find ways of working with our Chakras to balance the energy flow in our bodies so that it is in optimal operating order. Each day we will focus on one of the Chakras and offer an Rxercise that will help restore or maybe just tweak the balance of that specific Chakra. These Chakra Rxercises are meant to be fun and lighthearted, but at times they may be more involved when they are focued on healing Chakras that are just slightly opened or totally closed.

Starting today, make it your practice to scan your energy in the morning and periodically throughout the day so that you are aware of your energy environment. We will explain how to do that in our next post.

In the meantime, I am wishing you Beauty, Balance and Blessings!
